Roundup and Outlook

2016 is here! And with it, rain, snow, lots of new work and new business opportunities. Yay!

First off, I didn’t plan on taking a blogging break, but for some reason, whenever I don’t update this site for a few days, that part of my brain auto-shuts off and I start to feel uninspired. So, in order to get back into the groove, I give you some behind-the-scenes snaps and a little overview on what’s happening at Bureau Real. By the way, when I look up from this screen, I see the sign “Bureau.” Not sure if this is important in any way but it makes for quite a meta picture:

At the end of December, I shot some portraits for the upcoming LafargeHolcim annual report. It included a group photo of ten executives, no small feat, but we pulled it off nicely, I think. For this assignment, I rented a ton of equipment that barely fit in my Mobility car. I was nervous about it first, because I usually work with just one or two flashes, or preferably none at all. But during the shoot, I totally fell for the superfast Broncolor power packs and I was tempted to order one for myself until I saw the price tag that came with it. Maybe in another life!

My partners-in-crime included lovely hair/make-up pro Jana Müller and my assistant Matthias (who is also my brother). He also recently assisted me on a shoot for Lindt in Germany, and for many years, we’ve been a great team. Our collaboration started early, as you can see from the sweet photo my mom took of us doing the dishes during a vacation in France.

Clearly, we were children of the nineties — he went with the funky fresh fly boy look while I was more of a Grunge and anti-war “Stop F/A-18” t-shirt-wearing chick. Coincidentally, as I’m writing this, I am listening to an Alice In Chains album. Look how far I’ve come! I’ve managed to buy myself a pair of contact lenses, and that’s about it.

Speaking of Lindt, Matthias and I traveled to Heidelberg last Sunday and shot some scenes at their store there on Monday. The shoot involved asking customers to pose for certain set-ups, and this lovely Japanese couple was kind enough to accommodate us. Needless to say they received a bunch of Lindt loot afterwards which they were super happy about. I took the opportunity to pose with them and maître de chocolat Samira. Thank you, Lindt, for a really fun day!

On the left, the library of the University Heidelberg, and on the right a strange modeltrain set up at the station. I heart Germany and I can’t wait to go back there in February for a business trip!

Coming up are portraits for architects in Zurich, more LafargeHolcim, and more work on my book project about lesbians. Also, an assignment I’m very excited about: A long-term reportage for Keystone about refugee families living in Switzerland.
